Welcome to Meriturva Maritime Safety Training Centre!

Meriturva is a state-owned establishment under the National Board of Education. Our mission is to improve maritime safety and our goal is to offer safety training based on the needs of the customer.

Through our expert training you can substantially improve your practical skills at sea, irrespective of whether you are a mariner, a student of the trade or a non-professional. Our customers are mainly professional seafarers or maritime college students but also nautical associations and clubs. Also those, who fly helicopters over the Baltic Sea, in Finland, Sweden, Estonia and Lithuania, have found our HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) simulator suitable for their training needs. We have also started a training programme for EU agency Frontex's helicopter crews from all EU member states.

At Meriturva you get maritime safety training with a number of devices simulating different functions of a ship. A simulator is a controlled but realistic environment, where one learns how to act in various emergencies that can occur at sea. Only in simulator training one gains a routine in how to act in dangerous situations at sea, because in a simulator these procedures can be repeated over and over again.

Our quality system is certified (Bureau Veritas Certification, BVQ) by ISO 9001:2008 standard and our training is audited to meet the STCW (Standards for Training, Certification and Watch keeping) standards in both units. Meriturva is the National Representative for Finland in IASST (International Association for Safety and Survival Training).
